Where Does Your Portfolio Actually Stand?

A practitioner tool for program sponsors, not a sales doc. Ten honest yes/no/unsure questions about governance, accountability, and delivery risk — about two minutes, with a results band at the end.

1. For every major initiative, can you name the single person accountable for the outcome (not just the activity)?
2. Do your governance forums leave with decisions made, rather than items "noted" or "to monitor"?
3. Is there an escalation path from working-level issue to management action to executive decision that people actually use?
4. Do steering committees decide what can't be decided elsewhere, rather than debating task-level detail?
5. Can you see status, risks, dependencies, and resource load across the whole portfolio in one view?
6. Are benefits tracked against a defined baseline after go-live, not just at delivery?
7. Are your strongest people on critical initiatives actually freed from BAU, rather than "finding the bandwidth"?
8. Before automating a process, do you confirm it's worth performing as-is — rather than automating it exactly as it exists today?
9. Are cross-functional initiatives owned end-to-end, rather than stalling in the gaps between teams?
10. Does your governance scale with the complexity of the work, rather than with organizational anxiety?
